Rebekah Del Rio

Bio & Photos courtesy of www.rebekahdelrio.com

Singer/songwriter Rebekah Del Rio, as seen in David Lynch's "Mulholland Drive”, began her professional music career when she was just 11 years old.

Her unique style is perhaps best represented in her signature song, the wrenchingly beautiful ballad "Llorando", a Spanish-language version of Roy Orbison's "Crying," which strongly evokes both her Latin roots as well as such vocal influences as Patsy Cline, Linda Ronstadt, Vikki Carr, and Karen Carpenter. In 1994, on the strength of that song, Rebekah moved to Nashville where she was signed to Irving Azoff's label, Giant Records.

Rebekah opened for Rod Stewart at the 25th Annual WEA convention, and cut her first album, called "Nobody's Angel." The title track was released on a compilation album for WEA, and the single shot to #2 in Holland. Ms. Del Rio then went on to do a recording project for James Stroud at DreamWorks’ Nashville Label. Then she was cast as a principal character in “The Next Big Thing”.

Before moving back to Los Angeles, David Lynch cast her as herself in his nightmarish hymn to L.A., Mulholland Drive. Her noteworthy performance has been universally praised as "a dazzling star turn," by John Powers in the L.A. Weekly, to "uniquely twisted," and "utterly enthralling," by Gregory Weinkauf from the New York Times.

In a Village Voice interview, Lynch describes his partnership with Rebekah as a "happy accident".
“Working with David is like a dream”, says Rebekah of her experience with the famous Director. Rebekah has written a song with Mr. Lynch and has worked with the ‘Master of Strange’ on an Internet series called ‘Rabbits’, opposite Naomi Watts.

Ms. Del Rio was received with a standing ovation at the 12th Annual Rainforest Foundation Benefit Concert at Carnegie Hall April 2002 after singing “Llorando” a capella. Rebekah was joined by Sting, Sir Elton John, & James Taylor clad in sombreros and maracas while she sang “La Bamba” for a tribute to the 60’s.

Ms. Del Rio sang with the Royal Philharmonic in England for thousands of fans and performed at The Sabera Foundation Fundraising Event. 2005 will present Ms. Del Rio's talents in yet another award winning film, Quattro Noza by Joey Curtis.

Rebekah has lent her voice to many charity functions and events that cultivate and bring awareness to Women’s & Children’s rights, Gay Rights, as well as the Latino Community. She was highlighted in the celebration for Salvador Dali’s 100th birthday gala at the Los Angeles Museum of Modern Art, the Maravilla Celebration at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico as well as being featured at the Los Angeles Conservancy’s “Last Remaining Seats” program where she was given a standing ovation for her performance at the Historic Orpheum Theatre in downtown L.A.

With the release of her most current album, “All My Life, Toda Mi Vida”, Rebekah has had more opportunities to work with other artists and on many film projects such as the Robert Rodriguez film, “Sin City” and the soon to be released Richard Kelly (Donnie Darko) film, "Southland Tales" where she sings an unforgettable version of "The Star Spangled Banner". She also recently recorded a song on Michael Brook’s new album and was featured on Vista LA and the Florida television show "La Raza Campeones" in 2005.

Rebekah is currently writing for her Nashville/Los Angeles based Music Publishing Company, Baja Basement Music, and is represented by Brian Loucks at Creative Artists Agency.

Diamondback Annie

Bio & Photos courtesy of www.palomaragency.com

Diamondback Annie's swingin' tribute to the King of rock and roll puts the "pelvis" back in Elvis! Let her gender-bending gyrations set your mind a-whirl as this burnin' hunk of love sets the stage ablaze with a sizzling rendition of the King in all the overblown, karate-choppin' spangled glory of his Vegas heyday. Marvel at the sordid history of Annie's spectacular vintage breakaway jumpsuit, originally handcrafted in the mid-70's by Elvis' own tailor, Bill Belew, for a young and nubile Donny Osmond. And, get up close and personal with Annie and she might choose to grace you with one of her monogrammed silk scarves, stained with sweat from the unlikeliest of places!

The Elvis Burlesque show combines key elements of both dragkinging and burlesque to create an innovative act that remains true to the spirit of both performance traditions, evoking the irreverence and provocative glamour of a burlesque striptease while maintaining a truly masculine edge in both looks and attitude . Despite its unusual context, the act is nevertheless a classic Elvis tribute show in many ways, remaining faithful to the appearance, movements, and musical choices of the scarf-slinging singer at the height of his 70's excess. In fact, the show closely follows the pattern established in Elvis' concerts of this era. While the ominous theme from 2001 broods in the background, a brace of security guards escort Annie as she tours the audience in a blacked-out theater, stealing kisses from the ladies along the way and arriving onstage in a blaze of light as the music reaches its triumphant conclusion. The rest of the act reveals itself to "The Power of My Love" -- a macho, sexy grind that thhe King recorded when he returned to the stage in the late 1960's. Though the white jumpsuit gets whipped away to uncover a briefer suit of fringed gold leather, the wig stays on till the last possible moment to maximize the tension. Finally, when little else is left but the sideburns, Annie leaves the stage to the brassy outro that always accompanied the King as he left the building.

Diamondback Annie has performed her Elvis burlesque at events ranging from private parties to university concert series. Recent highlights include appearances at the House of Blues, Los Angeles; the August, 2003 "Tiki Exotica" revue with Don Ho at the Key Club on the Sunset Strip; and the 2004 New York Burlesque Festival. She also performed -- and lectured -- at Seattle's Experience Music Project as part of this rock and roll museum's annual Pop Music Conference in April of 2004. Beyond her current incarnation as the King -- or at least, as a pretender to the throne -- she has an extensive background doing burlesque-style drag performances in a rock and roll vein. Most notable among these were "Black Diamond" -- a Paul Stanley extravaganza replete with black cockerel feathers and rhinestones -- and "Highway to Hell," in which a strict nun lets down her headdress to become rowdy Catholic schoolboy Angus Young. In fact, it was in nun drag that Annie had one of the more unusual experiences of her career, when she generated a flurry of agitated letters by becoming the first -- and perhaps the only -- woman to ever make the cover of the Tom of Finland Foundation's magazine, as part of a spread on prominent erotic photographer Justice Howard.

Daniela Torchia

Bio and Photo courtesy of www.danielatorchia.com

Daniela Torchia is totally bewitching…She has a charm and beauty that can be mesmerizing. But, as an artist, her vision challenges convention and preconceived notions. She’ll confound you, amuse you, shock you and seduce you. Indeed, this is an artist you cannot take lightly.

She calls her music American Pop-Rock, but its Latin flavor and eclectic approach create a soundscape that pushes the envelope into the extraordinary.  According to Daniela, “Rules were made to be broken...” And break them – she does.

Combining the likes of Segovia, Gwen Stefani, Norah Jones and Shakira, she seduces her listeners with an exotic whisper that blushes with intimacy - then, blasts them into a pop chorus that’s worthy of the Matrix production team. It’s a shockingly defiant style, but one that is also compelling and irresistible. Her songs give a new perspective to our collective consciousness as they twist expectations. But, while Daniela may dare us to think in a less linear fashion, she’s also comforting along the way.

This seeming paradox is what Daniela brings to her music where she reveals her unconventional nature, and a hint of her wild side.  Clearly, this is an artist with a broad vision.  She explores life with sharp observations about love, shame, hope and desire and does so with such deep insight that her post-modern approach to music does not seem rebellious.

Born to Austrian and Italian parents in Madrid Spain, Daniela wasn’t raised to be a rebel. With both her mother and father in entertainment, she was encouraged to be creative. Her world was rooted in the arts where she studied music, literature, dance and theater. As a teenager, it culminated when she joined the circus as a performer, swinging from the Big Top and being rescued from gorillas. Later, she tried acting and dance, appearing in television shows and theater productions. But, even though she received accolades and acquired an impressive resume, it wasn’t enough. It seems that music was on her mind and in her heart.

As a result, Daniela picked up a guitar and started to write songs. Like many young girls, she put her thoughts into a journal. Much of it was stream of consciousness – some of it was poetry. Today, she’s filled fourteen years worth of pages. And, many of those entries form the basis of her songs.

Her multi-cultural background also found its way into her music, creating a style that blends European and American diversities.  After writing enough songs to fill an entire album, she road-tested the material at open-mic nights and small venues in the LA area and eventually released her album, 'Have No Fear'.  With thirteen tracks and over fifteen musicians participating in the final product, Daniela has realized her dream and is also releasing the album in Spanish, titled 'Sin Miedo', to honor her birthplace.

Roger was born in Granada, Nicaragua and has lived in Los Angeles since the age of two. His playing style combines Spanish Flamenco, Afro-Cuban and South American influences into a unique, new sound all his own.  Roger's inspiration for his songwriting comes mainly from his travels and personal experiences. Although he has played the piano, trombone, trumpet and bass guitar, his favourite instrument is the Spanish Nylon Guitar which he plays with a very disciplined technique.  Not only has he opened for Christina Aguilera, but has backed Rebekah Del Rio on guitar for many concert dates and appearances, including the opening night of Boudoir Du BurLez.

Known for their dynamic choreography and striking beauty, the girls' reputation continued to sky rocket as they performed to packed houses. Each Floozy show was different and you never knew what to expect when the girls took the stage. One night you might catch the girls in pigtails innocently blowing on pinwheels. Venus DeMille

Bio & Photos courtesy of www.venusdemille.net

The Deity of Desire is reborn! She has come to earth as
Burlesque Artist Venus DeMille, crowned this year's
"Legend in the Making " at the Miss Exotic World Pageant.
Mere mortals are held spellbound by her heavenly body
and dazzling performances which combine the Glamour of Hollywood,
the Temptation of the Strip-Tease, and the Bluster of a good old
Bump-n-Grind, earning her the name "The Spectacle of Delphi."

Emerging from a mad scientist’s laboratory (as opposed to the
usual half shell) Venus adapted her lofty self to portraying a range of
earthly vixens. Her accordion skills are unparalleled, and whether
she’s serenading the audience while shedding flimsy garments,
or rappelling from the rafters, she always envelops the crowd in a
preternaturally supreme theatrical experience, continuously reducing
human spectators to helpless piles of rubble with a mere glance.

The Divine One’s own costume designs were so spectacular,
that though he preferred to see her unclothed, Zeus himself was
inspired to bestow upon her a Master’s Degree in Theater.
But Venus can be benevolent as well as meddlesome. She has
been sharing her costuming expertise with the morals for several
years now, teaching Burlesque Costume Classes at Costume College
(Van Nuys), Stiletto (Redlands), and Tease-O-Rama (San Francisco.)

She has graced the stage at such diverse events as The Velvet
Hammer Burlesque, Tease-O-rama, Bricktops! Burlesque Bingo,
Buckingham Burlesque, Little Minsky’s (San Francisco), Columbia City
Cabaret (Seattle), The Bedroom Club (Seattle), the Vintage Erotic
Cinema Series, the LA Dyke March, and Comic-Con.

Despite the rumors about her behavior in the distant past,
Venus did not wrest away the “Legend in the Making” trophy
from all the other mortals in her category at the last
Miss Exotic World Pageant by granting any well-placed
favors to the Judges….At least not this time…

Will of 'Hey Willpower'

Bio courtesy of www.heywillpower.com & www.myspace.com/heywillpower

"Hey willpower" was conceived one night in july on 3rd street in san francisco when Will and Amy Linton were at a Tussle show.  They talked about their love for r&b pop/hip hop.  When Will gave her a ride home and the Busta/Mariah song "I know what you want" came on, they just listened in awe.  As if Amy was reading Will's mind, she said they should get together and make a song using all the elements of pop that they love.  They soon started working on a song in her basement.  Will came up with some vocal melodies and keyboard/guitar parts and left Amy overnight with them.   The result was the backing track for "onthefloor".  Amy soon told Will she had to go on tour with her band the Aislers Set and left.  Will continued on and met Tomo through a friend and soon were on a regular practice schedule furiously writing and recording music.

Will grew up listening to Michael and Janet and L'Trimm and pop that my sisters would turn him on to.  As soon as he heard Sonic Youth and the Velvet Underground, his world turned inside out and he started voraciously ingesting anything other than what was played on the radio.  He became immersed in the indie music world with his band 'Imperial Teen', all the while reveling in the latest greatest pop/hip hop songs and records.

"Hey willpower" feels like something new and exciting and postmodern without being smug or ironic. Although it's different from 'Imperial Teen', it makes perfect sense for Will to be making the music they're making because it comes from what he loves about music.  When performing live and people are doin' their dances and making noise, they know it's right.  Dance is becoming a big part of their live show.

Penny Starr Jr.

Bio & Photos courtesy of www.itsachick.com

Following in her grandmother’s Frederick’s of Hollywood platformed footsteps, Penny Starr Jr. is the stage persona of Philly-Girl and Los Angeles filmmaker Augusta.

She spent 3 years making her documentary on LA’s premiere burlesque troupe, THE VELVET HAMMER BURLESQUE, virtually living with the smart, beautiful, compelling women of the Velvet Hammer, spending an entire year editing the film, watching the performances.

It was no wonder that she decided to pick up the mantle held by her grandmother, Philadelphia burlesque dancer Penny Starr.  Or, as Augusta puts it “You can only live with the circus for so long before you want to join!”

And, in June of 2003, Penny Starr Jr. made her debut at the legendary Miss Exotic World Burlesque Competition. Causing a big splash, she ended her first ever burlesque number by throwing off her bra, revealing swarovski-crystal encrusted starfish pasties and jumped in the pool that is the center of the outdoor performance space, giving new meaning to the word “breast stroke”.

In 2004, on the 1 year anniversary of performing, Penny Starr, Jr. became the First Runner-Up at Miss Exotic World.

Penny Starr, Jr. continues to pop up all over the country, and dare I say, Canada.  She was a regular at Bricktops at the Parlour Club (R. I. P.), and has had guest appearances with shows like Lucha Va Voom, the Va Va Voom Room, Skin Tight Outta Sight Rebel Burlesque, and the Peek-A-Boo Revue in Philadelphia, among others.

Bettina Suicide

Bio & Photo courtesy of www.bettina.ca

Bettina has long been fascinated with pin-up photography and vintage glamour, and started out in the world of modern cheesecake with pin-up modeling. Her modeling work with SuicideGirls.com includes being a subject of the 2003 HBO RealSex TV show on Modern Pin-up, appearing in a Probot music video featuring Dave Grohl and Lemmy Kilmister and inclusion in the SuicideGirls coffee table book. This led her to burlesque, a place where she could share her love for a bygone era with others. Bettina has been performing burlesque since Halloween 2003, when she formed the BettiLu Bombshells with fellow burlesque dancer LuluMae in Victoria, BC, Canada as that city's only burlesque troupe in recent memory. They performed with Vancouver burlesque icons Kitten Coquette and the Ultra Vixens Peepshow and a variety of rockabilly and country swing bands. That same year, Bettina picked up an award for "Most Energetic Dancer (Female)" in the 2003 local Monday Magazine arts awards show.
Following a successful west coast tour down to San Francisco at the beginning of 2005, where they shared the stage with the multi-talented Bombshell Betty and The Indra, Bettina struck out on her own as a solo performer. Since then she has gone on to several shows in Victoria and Vancouver, where she performed with Sweet Soul Burlesque, most recently taking part in the Vancouver International Burlesque Festival, and has lent her talents to a wide variety of benefit shows. On February 28, 2006 (her birthday!) she was again recognized by Monday Magazine readers, being awarded "Favourite Dancer." Bettina hopes her exuberant charm and vivacious live shows will take the world of burlesque in new and exciting directions.
