"David Palmer... Drummer Extrordinaire"
David is hands down, my favorite drummer and one of the best in the music business. He made his early mark in the band ABC.
Providing the backbeat for their amazing "Lexicon of Love" album, he helped to create one of the masterpieces of the eighties. After only one release, he left, continuing on with other artists like Matt Johnson's The The (which included Johnny Marr from The Smiths), Rod Stewart and as an incredible and in demand session drummer. The two full releases he played on with The The rank as Matt Johnson's best recordings (in my opinion) and much of the thanks go to Palmer for providing a genius back beat.
His musicianship, drive, talent, intricately powerful drumming and down to earth qualities are major inspirations. He's one of the nicest, most genuine and down to earth musicians. I've met him three times and each time, he's been nothing but cool. As of 2009, he's pulling double duties, playing with both the reinvigorated ABC and the legendary Rod Stewart. Most recently, I saw him in 2008 in Orange County backing the almighty Rod on the drums. Fantastic show! Check below for a cool still from the show taken by moi!
