Inspirational 21st Century Music Artists Last Updated: May 20, 2008 There are an increasing amount of music groups and artists that inspire me in the 21st century. Below is just a few of them. Amazing and incredibly uplifting are just a couple of adjectives to describe these gifted artists. Warren Fischer & Casey Spooner This two-some is the best, most talented, unique, witty and fierce electronica/synth band on the planet and have a long life ahead.
Alison Goldfrapp & Will Gregory This tremendously sexy group led by the vocally angelic Alison is quite stunning in their mix of synth perfection, breathtaking visuals, fierce production and all mixing the most modern sound with an antique, by-gone era sound. Mix Depeche Mode with Marlene Dietrich and you BEGIN to have an idea what they're about.
To hear them on record is one thing...To see them live is so much more because Alison and Will bring their repitoire to a full life with an amazingly talented backing band that consists of violinists, bassist, drummer, four keyboardists (including Will) and percussionist. The above 2 DVD set 'Wonderful Electric' is absolutely recommended and if you love music and are looking for some inspiration in life, you must own it! It covers two concerts in London: Somerset House (full band performance) & Shepherd's Bush Empire' (more orchestral & unplugged style performance with added string section). A literal slice of heaven will descend and surround you as you cast your gaze upon and open your ears to this two disc masterpiece. To be watched in a darkened, candlelit space whilst having your most favorite alcoholic beverage. Breathtaking and absolutely amazing!!!
Photo by Alan Mercer Numero uno in my book of female singers of the 21st Century. There's unlimited potential with this largely unknown and overlooked songstress. Her vocals are out of this world and she's a must see in a live context as the sexual, passionate and vocal ante is upped quite a few notches and is mixed with between song banter that shows her genius at the sensuality and comedic. I'm certain she'll get her due, sooner rather than later. God knows there are so many other singers out there with far less talent having success. With Ms. Del Rio, all she needs is a damn good publicist and manager to start the ball rolling and keep it rolling. Given her talent, it won't be long.
Sarah Blackwood & Kate Holmes Hailing from the UK, this electro-pop duo has made quite the impression on me with their cold sensuality, strength, beauty and talent. Having followed the ravishing Sarah Blackwood since her days as front woman of the UK band DUBSTAR, I was surprised when I found out about her resurrection with "Client". Like male duo bands like PET SHOP BOYS, SOFT CELL and SPARKS, it's a breath of fresh air to see two women step in to turn the typical male dominated duo into a fantastic new direction of feminism at its most powerful! Being the first band signed to Depeche Mode's Andy Fletcher's record label TOAST HAWAII, their future looks bright and full of potential.
