Keith Moon (1946 - 1978) Watching Keith Moon defied description and I not only loved his meticulous timing and incredible speed and intricate style but his comedy skills as well. His drumming, however erratic and spastic it may have looked, was full of skill and perfection. There was method to his madness behind the kit and it was a seamless mix of comedic and percussive timing. Keith also had a sense of humor away from his drums that permeated all through his life and touched everyone who knew him. He may have been a comedic genius and class clown in everyday life, but once he sat behind his drums, he became one with his kit and the music and made it all seem so effortless. With that said, I greatly enjoyed watching Moon play in a special angle camera shot of him on the special features of "The Kids Are All right" DVD. I was mesmerized with how he played "Won't Get Fooled Again" with complete and focused precision only to show his wear and physical limitations after the song ended and the camera still rolled. Out of breath, it revealed just how out of shape Keith had become. I'm not fully clued in as to what his personal vices and addictions were outside of an addiction to alcohol. All I can say is we lost a unique and irreplaceable drummer and even though he's gone, he left an untouchable body of work that will forever influence and inspire. I took away two life lasting inspirations from Keith Moon: To put my all into whatever I do in life. To control any negative addictions/vices and not vice versa.
