Photography

My Photography career
(pre-digital) began in the United States Army where I was a "Still Photographic
Specialist". Much of what I know, I learned during my four years of service
which included small and large formats and styles of color and b&w photography:
shooting, composition, developing & processing (D76, E6, C41) and printing. The
main bulk of my military work revolved around headshots, portrait, public relations,
media, briefings, investigative, award ceremonies, military exercises, crime scenes,
historical documentation and Top Secret. It was the best education and experience
that personal freedom can buy, all while being patriotic for the United States of America.
Looking back, I am very proud of all I accomplished and in the four years, I
succeeded in being the best, most honest and dedicated soldier, photographer AND person I
could be. Thanks are in order to the Army and the American taxpayer for providing
and paying for my stellar education. If you compare my four years in the Army with
my first four years in Hollywood, the military wins hands down in the areas of comraderie,
organization, integrity, respect, confident/honest peoples & surroundings, discipline,
fairness (in promotion & the workplace), job trust & responsibility. After
the military, I continued as a photographer, first for the DOD followed by further studies
and experience on my own and at SIUC.

Card ad I
used in late 90's promoting my photography services. I recieved few if any calls
because I was unknown. In Hollywood, a recognizable, experienced "name" is
crucial for success. Many LA photographers can be mediocre and predatory in nature
and either charge unsuspecting and/or inexperienced aspiring actors too much money and end
up leaving you unsatisfied with their services. Serious actors should and do go to
"name" photographers with strong portfolios and a reputation for quality.
While they tend to be on the expensive side (hundreds of dollars), you're guaranteed
having the prestige of their "name" as well as excellent results. Being a
headshot photographer was short term for me because, in all honesty, I lacked name
recognition, experience at the local level, the best equipment and studio that more
established photographers possess.
